What is Albendazole 400mg?
Albendazole is an anthelmintic (anti-worm) medicine used to treat parasitic worm infestations in humans. It works by stopping the worms from absorbing glucose, which causes them to lose energy and die.
Uses
Albendazole 400mg is prescribed for:
- Intestinal worm infections (roundworms, pinworms, whipworms, hookworms)
- Hydatid disease (caused by dog tapeworms)
- Neurocysticercosis (tapeworm infection in the brain/muscles)
- Giardiasis (in children)
- Sometimes used for liver, lung, or peritoneal cysts caused by parasites
Dosage
- Adults & Children (>2 years):
- Intestinal worms: 400 mg single dose
- Hydatid disease: 400 mg twice daily for 28 days, repeated in cycles
- Neurocysticercosis: 400 mg twice daily for 8–30 days (as advised by doctor)

How to Take
- Take with food (especially fatty meal) → improves absorption.
- Swallow whole with water.
- Sometimes given as single dose; for some infections, multiple doses are required.
Side Effects

- Temporary hair loss
- Fever
Serious (rare, seek medical help):
- Severe liver problems (jaundice, dark urine, yellowing eyes/skin)
